Today afternoon, the Taliban seized the center of the city of Farah after a brief shootout with the security forces. In a deadly onslaught, the Taliban captured the governor’s office and police headquarters,” Shahla Abubar, an individual from Farah’s common chamber and local lawmaker, told the media outlets. Farah is the provincial capital of the Farah governorate.

The Farah governorate is situated in the southwestern part of Afghanistan, next to Iran. Farah is the capital and largest city of Farah Province in western Afghanistan. It is located on the Farah River, close to the border with Iran.
