Taliban kills Omar Khorasani, the head of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province.
As per the Taliban tweet, Sheikh Omar Khorasani, the head of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province, was executed in Puli-Charkhi prison. The largest prison in Afghanistan is Pul-e-Charkhi Prison, also known as the Afghan National Detention Center. It is situated east of Kabul and has had 5,000 prisoners since 2018. Taliban killed him while taking control of the city on Sunday. The burial of Khorasani took place in his old neighborhood in Kunar yesterday.
His family sources say that the Taliban killed him. Khorasani, also known as Zai ul Haq, was tasked with leading the Islamic State in South Asia and the Far East. In May 2020, he and two other top members of the assailant group were apprehended. In August 2018, infamous Islamic State commander Maulavi Habib ul-Rahman, Surrendered to the Afghan government along with 250 followers in the northern province of Jowzjan, to avoid being captured by the Taliban.
