Ex-Iranian Military Chief Succumbed To Coronavirus

Tehran (PNB News) -Military counselor to Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and Iran’s previous Chief of the army staff, passed away on Friday. According to Iran media, 70 years old Major General Firouzabadi succumbed to Coronavirus disease. Major General Firouzabadi served as a member of the Expediency Discernment Council. From 1989 until 2016, he remained the Chief-of-Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. After 1979 he was the first Iranian military officer to be promoted to the position of Major General.

Firouzabadi was born to devout parents from Yazd in the town of Malabad in Mashhad. After getting a graduation degree from Mashhad’s Ferdowsi University in 1980, he joined the army. Syed Firouzabadi also participated in the Iran-Iraq war and fought bravely against Iraq. Syed Ali Khamenei nominated him as head of the General Staff after the end of the Iran-Iraq war on October 25, 1989. He was also in charge of the surface-to-surface missile construction committee and industrial war engineering.
