Sept 06 (PNB News). At least 15 federal police officers have been martyred in Islamic State’s Organized attack in northern Iraq. Islamic State (ISIS/Daesh) insurgents went on the shooting rampage in the al-Rashad district and obliterated the federal police checkpoint. In mortal and gun attack 15 police officers were killed on Sunday. The initial report said unidentified gunmen fled the scene just after annihilating the police checkpoint. Kirkuk is the capital city of the Kirkuk province in Iraq. It is located 238 kilometers north of Baghdad. It is inhabited by Turkmens, Arabs, and Kurds, all of whom have competing claims to the city.
The Islamic State of Iraq often exploits the Kirkuk region to target innocent residents and security forces from various angles. Haider al-Abadi had declared victory against ISIS in July 2017, when Mosul city was collapsed to Iraqi forces. However, some remaining elements are spreading chaos and havoc to penetrate security forces and civilians in order to expand further control in the strategic constituencies of Iraq and Syria.
