Emmanuel Macron, France (PNB NEWS). French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to announce the withdrawal of French troops from Mali, according to sources. A meeting was held to discuss the French troop’s withdrawal from Mali, in the Sahel region of Africa. France’s relations with Mali deteriorated after the Malian military government decided to stay in power until 2025. Mali’s military junta also reneged on a consensus to hold elections in February.

Scores of French soldiers have been deployed in Africa, as part of Operation Barkhane since 2014. The operation Barkhane covers Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger countries. Around 5,000 French troops are permanently stationed in Chad to stamp out the insurgency from Mali and other African countries.
