Congo, (PNB NEWS). Militiamen killed 18 civilians who had sought refuge in a Church in eastern Congo. Local media and human rights organizations confirmed the incident early Wednesday. Terrorists carried out attack in the Banyali Kilo district of Ituri province. At the time of the onslaught, people were sleeping in the Church compound, the report said. The source revealed that people fled there after fleeing the previous attack. One of the eyewitnesses said,” I awoke hastily and woke up my wife and two children to escape.”
“This is how we were saved despite the fact that 18 of our brothers and sisters were massacred,” he revealed. “Terrorists have once again targeted displaced persons who have no safety,” an army spokesman said. We are trying to bring peace back to Ituri province, the military further stated. The Ituri war is an ongoing conflict in the Ituri region of the north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo between the agriculturalist Lendu and pastoralist Hema ethnic groups. Two groups had been fighting since 1972. The violent war has persisted to the present day.
