Egypt, (PNB NEWS). On Saturday, 11 Egyptian soldiers were killed while trying to stop a “terrorist” attack on the Suez Canal territory, the Egyptian army said.
A suspected Islamic State assault resulted in heavy military losses.
ISIS also wounded 5 soldiers on the banks of the Sinai River east of the canal army further added.
President Sissi mourned the deaths of the soldiers and vowed to continue to fight the rebels and “eradicate terrorism”.
Identities and affiliations of terrorists were not ascertained by the General Intelligence Services.
The Sinai-based extremist group Jama’at Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis announced its affiliation with ISIS in November 2014 after accepting the regional caliphate of leader al-Baghdadi.
They had announced a self-proclaimed caliphate, in November 2014 on the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.
No one group claimed responsibility for the Saturday attack.
